JENNETTE’S FISHING PIER

Originally built in 1939, Jennette’s is the oldest fishing pier on the Outer Banks. Battered by storms & rebuilt many times throughout its seventy-year life, Jennette’s was knocked down by Hurricane Isabel in 2003, just after the pier & its five-acre tract were purchased by the NC Aquarium Society.

CURRITUCK BEACH LIGHTHOUSE

Located in the town of Corolla, the Currituck Beach Light was the last of four beacons placed at intervals from Cape Henry, Virginia to Cape Hatteras. It’s beacon filled the remaining “dark spot” along the coast of North Carolina. This lighthouse stands 162 feet, 214 steps to the top and approximately 1 million bricks.

BODIE LIGHTHOUSE
Bodie Island Lighthouse is located eight miles south of the US 158 and US 64 intersection, west of NC 12, just north of Oregon Inlet.This 156-foot structure and its distinctive black and white bands was built only a few years later by the same crew that constructed the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. The tower’s massive base is open to those wishing to see inside it from Memorial Day through Labor Day, 10 AM to 4 PM.
