I would like to take a moment and thank you for choosing to stay here at the Outer Banks Motor Lodge and tell you a little bit about myself and the story behind OBML. My name is Alexandra Saunders, known to many as Alex, and I am the manager. I am found most days in the office but do not be surprised if you catch me in the laundry, making a bed or two, or beside my maintenance man ‘attempting’ to learn little trades. You may even spot my son from time to time helping me work!
At age 14, my father, Eddie Miller started his career working as a pool boy, desk clerk and utility person here at the Outer Banks Motor Lodge under Mr. and Mrs. John Bell. Although he loved his job as a teenage boy he had no idea that in 1988 he would purchase this very motel with his wife, Lou. Growing up I spent quite a bit of time here; I was mostly playing on the playground or swimming in the pool. In, 2002 my parents sold the motel and believed that was the end of their motel journey. Little did they know I would grow up and be looking for something to call my own!
After graduating college with a degree in business management from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington I worked for my sister as her dining room manager at Miller’s Waterfront. However after having my son in 2009 I wanted to grow and have a business to call my own. As fate would have it my parents were approached about an opportunity to buy back the Outer Banks Motor Lodge. In 2011 my parents approached me and offered me the opportunity to become their partner and by 2012 I was learning the motel business!
Fast forward a few years and I married Josh Saunders, the son of the man who sold the motel back to my parents. Isn’t it funny how life works out?! My little family of two has now grown to six!
Again I would like to thank you for choosing to stay with us here at the Outer Banks Motor Lodge and I look forward to getting to know you and your family!
